Operation 2000 Cherry Trees recently welcomed Consul General of Japan, Mr. Hajime Kishimori, who visited Dayton to tour the area and witness the cherry blossoms that have been enthusiastically embraced by the Greater Dayton Region. To date, over 1,600 trees have been planted.

During his tour of the Dayton area, Consul General Kishiori expressed appreciation for how the cherry trees strengthen the cultural bonds between Japan and the United States while beautifying the Greater Dayton Region.

Since the program’s launch in 2012, cherry trees have been planted throughout the Dayton Region, including at Carillon Park, the I-70/75 Interchange, The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, Stubbs Park, Trotwood’s John Wolfe Park, Edwin C. Moses Boulevard, GE EPIC Center, Bellbrook Middle School, the Dayton Art Institute, Sinclair Park and many other locations. Each spring, these trees create magnificent displays of delicate pink and white blossoms, attracting visitors and fostering community pride.

The Yoshino Akebono cherry variety was specifically selected for its hardiness in the Ohio climate and its spectacular spring bloom. These trees not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area but also provide environmental benefits including improved air quality, shade, and habitat for local wildlife.

With 400 trees remaining to reach the goal of 2,000, the organization continues to seek community support through donations and volunteer efforts. Individuals, businesses, and community groups interested in sponsoring trees or participating in planting events are encouraged to get involved.
